2D Materials

There are new materials that are available now, that were unheard of a few years ago. They are 2-D materials, made up of only a single layer of atoms, with such materials as graphene(carbon), borophene(boron), silicene(silicon), and many others. They have not be found to be toxic, and now, as the prices of these once very costly materials fall, they could soon change the world; each each of these materials has a wide variety of applications that are only now being discovered to improve a wide variety of different items

One of the most exciting applications of these materials is in their use of creating more powerful computers. Graphene has the potential to greatly increase the speed of transitiors. It has been shown to greatly exceed the abilities of silicon transistors, and it could also be used to improve circuits, but the functionality is still a concern, as the new graphene circuits and transistors could be affected by voltage, excluding it from use in some applications, but this could be changed as time goes on.

There is also a wide consumer market for new 2-D material based goods. Graphene can be used to improve water filters, and could be used in roads and concrete, for its ability to absorb vehicle emissions and other substances from the atmosphere. It can also be integrated into other materials to make them stronger, such as better bicycle tires, and lighter aircraft. A combination of graphene and boron based compounds could be used in batteries to make them higher capacity, and longer-lasting, and with more time, the possible applications could be endless.
